Mobile Channel
Characteristics, second edition
by James K. Cavers
This interactive text introduces the
propagation characteristics of mobile and personal communication – the
ones that affect design of modems, smart antennas and cell system
layout. Its strong tutorial flavor makes it suitable for graduate
students and working engineers, as well as those entering the field
from another discipline.

Mobile Channel Characteristics is
an interactive text:
- The entire text resides on your hard drive. It
is always ready, just a mouse click away.
- It is a live document. Try different
parameter values, and the equations, tables and graphs recalculate as
you watch. Animated graphs illustrate dynamics of the channel. Explore
propagation, modulation or system models interactively to gain
additional insight.
- You can use its many working programs
on the job or in your thesis to speed up your work.
- It links you to the world. Hyperlinks
connect you to websites of cited authors, to online research journals
and to employers and graduate schools, all through the Internet.
The first edition, a 225-page hardcover book
published by Kluwer
Academic Publishers, has sold out. This expanded second edition,
available only on CD ROM, is published by Shady Island Press. New
features of the second edition: MIMO channels; antenna correlation
in MIMO systems; bit error rate in diversity and correlated diversity;
arrays of directional antennas with arbitrary geometry in limited angle
spread; programs for simulating time-varying channel gains for
correlated antennas; enhanced introduction; links to new online
journals and author websites.
Mobile Channel Characteristics is
best read in Mathcad, but can be
viewed with your Internet Explorer browser. Free 120-day evaluation
version of Mathcad included. Requires Microsoft Windows.
